Beeban Kidron

Beeban Kidron was born in 1961. She earned a prize for her photography after being discovered at age 13 by Magnum photographer Eve Arnold. She then turned to cinema, first as an editor, then as a director of films for television, fiction and documentaries. Following studies at the National Film and Television School, she went on to make films for the BBC.


Kidron first attracted notice with her award-winning TV movie, "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit" (1990). Her work has attracted many awards including, The Prix Italia, several British Academy awards, A Golden Hugo, Critics Choice at Crietiel, The Lillian Gish award and RTS awards. She is the co-founder of Film Club, a pilot scheme designed to bring film into UK schools.
